RINGING IN THE CHANGES.
As if a whole new office and double the staff members isn’t enough to get our head around, another new addition has recently landed on our desks. It isn’t a bird, it’s isn’t a plane... it’s the new IP Telephone System.

For techies this uses the SIP protocol, which means you can use a range of handsets with different costs rather than be dictated to by any single manufacturer.

VOIP Telephone Systems convert your analogue voice signal into digital packets that can be sent over the internet, bypassing the more expensive traditional telephone network. So it saves your business money. But that’s not all. Because VOIP uses your IT Network the two communication systems can integrate and the once humble telephone can work much harder for you than ever before.

It doesn't matter where you are in the world, from Sussex to Sydney, as long as you have an internet connection you can work in this way. Mobiles with wi-fi can be called for free.

Since my new SIP phone landed I can see whether my colleagues are on the phone, even if they are in the Guildford Office via Instant Messaging (I work in Sussex so trust me, that’s not normally possible!) I can log, manage and retrieve data from my calls. If I’m unavailable to chat, the system records the voicemail and sends it to me on an email as an attachment so when I return to my desk all I have to do is click on the message to hear it. Long gone are the days of endless confusing automated answering machines. It’s clear that before very long I’ll be wondering how I ever managed without it.

And I remember shunning the first mobile phone I was offered!

FEELING CHARITABLE
There must be something in the air this month because Arcom IT has been very busy assisting good causes by air, land and sea.

AIR: C-3.org.uk are a Conservation Charity based in Grande Comore off the coast of Africa. Kevin has been doing an amazing job reconditioning laptops so they can be flown out to assist in the important work they are doing out there. "Laptops form an essential part of our work here and we are all very thankful of your continued support" - David Hunter, Programme Officer.

LAND: Back at home Shahid played an integral role in setting up a charity art auction for CHASE childrens hospice. £10,000 was raised at Losely House with several pieces by Darren Baker (commissioned to paint HM the Queen on her 85th Birthday). Here he is with Shahid enjoying a very successful evening.

SEA: Heather is swimming the Channel in aid of Aspire, supporting people with spinal injury. Okay, so it’s not the actual Channel, but she does have to swim the full 22 miles at her local pool and so far has managed to do about 4. For the last 12 years Arcom IT have been working closely with SCT Mobile to assist customers who need to have their network with them whilst on the move and for McAllisters Recovery, being on the move is fundamental.

The brief was to provide a mobile solution which provided a seamless integration of the communications and IT infrastructure, a method of recording jobs quickly, electronically from a single device. SCT Mobile provided McAllisters with the aptly named and exclusive HTC Magic Phone and Arcom IT prepared the servers and ensured the security of the new devices. Now the recovery teams can send, receive and record electronic data from site.
