USA 3G Shutdown - Update from Vodafone:

Vodafone logo

There are some important changes taking place which may impact customers travelling to the USA.

Our mobile network roaming partners in the USA (AT&T and T-Mobile) are in the process of switching off their 3G networks.

AT&T have already done so, and T-Mobile will do so on 01 July 2022. This means that from 01 July 2022 customers who roam in the USA may experience lower quality voice calls and slower data speeds. We’re working on a solution with our roaming mobile network partners that will help mitigate the impact.

How does this affect customers?

These changes mean that from 01 July 2022 customers who roam in the USA may experience lower quality voice calls and slower data speeds. We’re working on a solution with our mobile network roaming partners that will help mitigate the impact at a network level, however there are some things that customers should do or bear in mind before travelling:

  • Check that your handset is a compatible handset (this can be done by checking the list of devices in the dedicated webpage linked below)
  • Check that you have the latest software updates on your handsets and other devices you may be travelling with
  • Be conscious that data coverage may be patchy so sending critical documents or data may be better done when stationary in the office or hotel

We recommend you go to our dedicated webpage here, which will provide more information. Alongside our FAQs, we have included a list of devices that will be compatible for 4G calling abroad once a solution is in place.
